In 2002, David M. Theobald, MS, RN, CSP, was working as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. By his side were supplemental and travel nurses filling critical gaps in care during a national nursing shortage. Although the system worked well, he envisioned a different, better approach to patient care staffing during times of need marked by high stress, one based upon the concept of caring rather than competitive preferences and strategies. His plan called for both temporary solutions to fill immediate needs and permanent solutions to ease the recurrent cycle of shortages.
Stat Staff Professionals began providing services in 2003 as one of the first nurse-owned and nurse-operated organizations in the United States. At its core is a commitment to provide exemplary patient care and staffing solutions that lead to the best health outcomes.

Tom Kernan J.D., CHP
Vice President and General Counsel
A seasoned business attorney and healthcare staffing professional, Tom oversees the company’s legal affairs and collaborates with the company’s CEO on strategic planning initiatives including establishing company policies, priorities, and business development objectives. As general counsel, Tom’s areas of oversight and responsibility include the review, negotiation, and drafting of contracts; the implementation of best practices to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal employment, privacy, and healthcare laws and regulations; and the safeguarding of company intellectual property.
Tom presently serves as Vice Chairman of the Health Care Section Policy Council of the American Staffing Association. He is also a member of the Health Law, Corporate Counsel and Labor and Employment Law sections of the New York State Bar Association. Prior to joining Stat Staff, Tom was engaged full-time in the private practice of law for ten years, representing business and individual clients in a wide array of transactional and litigated matters. Before entering private practice, Tom completed a two-year clerkship on the Central Legal Research and Writing Staff of the Court of Appeals, New York State’s highest appellate court. Tom received his Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University in 2003 and his Bachelor of Arts from Bard College in 2000, majoring in Psychology. In his spare time, Tom serves on the board of directors of Caffè Lena, Inc. a not-for-profit organization that operates oldest continuously operating folk music venue in the United States. Tom resides in Malta, New York, with his wife, Renee, and two school-aged sons.
Kathy Mion, BSN, RN
Director of Clinical Services
Kathy has 25 years of nursing experience, during most of which she worked in various Emergency Departments around the country. Currently, Kathy lends her expertise to StatStaff Professionals as the Director of Clinical Services and as an AHA instructor. She received her BSN while working on a Medical Surgical unit at Rochester General Hospital and attended classes in the evening through Nazareth College. After graduation, Kathy proudly served in the United States Navy as an officer in the naval nurse corps. Kathy's experience as a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and 8 years of active duty service played a vital part for Kathy in becoming the influential leader and mentor she is today.
Vice President of Client Relations
Kelly has more than 47 years in healthcare administration and recruiting. She began her career in the nursing and physical rehabilitation industry in the early 1980’s, as Director of Trucare Rehabilitation and transitioned to physician recruitment in the late 90’s, where she has been for the last 33 years.
Kelly attended the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and Dallas County Community College, majoring in healthcare business administration and minoring in Marketing.

Director of Software Development
Mike spent the first twenty years of his career working in large software teams for fortune 100 corporations developing mission-critical process automation software for manufacturing. In 1999, he left the corporate world, founded his own software company, and began developing custom desktop software and web-based applications for a wide variety of clients.
Mike joined the Stat Staff team in August of 2015 after several years working as our programming contractor. Mike works daily to build our in-house and client technologies with a focus on security and usability. He enjoys his role leading the software development team and sharing his 38 years of software development experience.
Susan Theobald MBA, CHP, CSP
Human Resources Strategist
Susan is native to upstate New York and graduated from Methodist University in North Carolina, where she completed her undergraduate degree in business. Susan spent the early years of her career working within customer service as a lead trainer for LexisNexis Mathew Bender. During her tenure, she has been a strong leader focusing on employee recruitment, engagement, training, coaching, and leadership. To stay current in workforce and human resources best practices, she obtained her certified staffing professional credential through the American Staffing Association. She earned her MBA from SUNY Empire State College and is an active member of SHRM.
Nicole Evers, CHP
Human Resources Generalist
Nicole holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Human Resources, and accreditation from the American Staffing Association. She brings more than 13 years of human resources experience across a variety of industries prior to joining the Stat Staff family. She has a passion for recruiting and placing the right people in the right positions to drive the mission of the organization. She loves to collaborate on human resources procedures, compliance, and policies to best meet the needs of her colleagues.
Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Faith has her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Marketing from SUNY Potsdam. She was a Marketing Manager for 2 years in the healthcare field where she developed a passion for graphic design and social media. Faith is happy to help and can be contacted for any matters involving advertisement, foundation sponsorships, event planning, or marketing initiatives.
Christine Tucker, CPA
Accounting & Finance
Christine is a graduate of Siena College and has over 20 years’ experience as a certified public accountant in the Capital District of New York State, providing tax and accounting services to individuals, businesses, partnerships, estates, and trusts. As the lead for accounting and finance with Stat Staff Professionals, Christine works closely with our executive team on key strategic and financial planning objectives.
Kevin Pommenville, MSN, RN
Director of Education and Special Programs
Kevin is a strategist and innovative member of the Stat Staff team. With over a decade of experience in educating the future of nursing, he has lectured on nursing topics, ranging from critical care, NCLEX, and leadership, and has taught in one of the top 15 nursing schools in the nation.
Having a strong interest in the future of mentorship, he has joined our team to bring creative solutions and a concept-based education that nurtures and enhances nurses' critical skills while embracing Patricia Benner's 'Novice to Expert" model.
In addition to his role here at Stat Staff Professionals, he is a Nursing Executive at Adirondack Health and Wellness, a published author, and the Course Chair of the Principles of Critical Care Nurse Mentorship Programs.
